Social Media Shares – Not Everything From Friends and Family is Safe.

The proliferation of scams, in general, is due in no small way at all, to the gullibility of people on social media. There appears to be this incredible trust people put into social media when it comes to ads and content that is viewed in general. The number of times I have read something like “I thought it was legit because it was on Facebook”. Or, “I thought it was safe because it was advertised on You-Tube” “Google”, “Instagram”, etc.

There are billions of people online every week. Humanity has not the man-power to vet every shred of data for the safety of the online world. The same way we have not the capability to man every square inch of Earth to ensure the safety of everyone all the time.

This is the up-trending situation that scammers know exquisitely and exploit to a tune of creating a multi-billion dollar industry. And I am sorry to say we are all to blame for I too have fallen for online scams in the past, based on the reasons I have stated above.

Just because ‘something’ is on e.g. Facebook does not make it magically-auto-safe-trustworthy. It does however make it easy to view and to be shared. Herein your family and friends come into play. If you have come across this scam as described previously then please warn your networks.

They may have not yet fallen for this scam and so all shares of this short article will help others to safeguard their own online safety. This is crucial for people’s Instagrams Accounts people may become blocked to them and so that is not nice for some people who may have invested years of memories, or as a business, in such accounts.

We must also consider that Google’s processing power, despite its incredibly impressive abilities, is simply not able to scan every word, deduce its meanings to determine fraud or not, and keep their entire search engine operating seamlessly. The power to achieve this is simply not there yet as there is too much to process.

To further this point Google is typically a whole three months behind crunching the numbers for online data in general that there is a three-month window, potentially, before Google realizes a site is not a good e-store for example.

Going forward I sincerely hope you keep these points in mind next time someone from your network shares something with you. Always do some form of research before clicking on links that appear to be odd. I mean, why would anyone bother themselves to make a collage of you or others just for the sake of it?

So odd encounters like these should always make you suspicious.
